2008 Kawasaki ZX-6R




Hey bikers!
Another 600cc middleweight rival for the Yamaha YZF R6 and the Honda CBR 600 RR trying to make a name for itself. Both of them (the R6 and the CRB 600 RR) were "declared"...to me it seems more like "self-proclaimed" as the "best 600cc/middleweight motorcycle ever". But with each new motorcycle I reviewed on the blog, none of them could have been declared "the best". Because each motorcycle had its own advantages and disadvantages and the differences weren't huge. SO after all, it remains the reader's, or rider's choice to choose which one of the 600cc/middleweight motorcycle is "the best" for him/her. This can be done, at least on my blog, by writing some comments that I will review and post, so get on with your writing. I am writing for you, now you write for me :). And now, to get back on track...not the race track as I would like, but on the brand new Kawasaki ZX 6R's track. Earlier on my blog, I've posted an article about the ZX6R, but not a fully detailed review. It was more focused on the Akrapovic exhast system for the ZX6R. Very cool though. So...finally, to get to my point for tonight's article...the Kawasaki ZX-6R. It is known as a true race winner, the Ninja ZX-6R sportbike captured a 1-2 finish in the 2007 Daytona 200 and placed 1-2 in the 2007 AMA Supersport championship, thanks to a merger of 600-class power and Grand Prix handling. The result is an exciting racetrack weapon capable of cornering speeds previously unknown to the middleweight class while retaining the wide spread of power that is pure Ninja.

To deliver the performance required in the demanding racetrack environ, the Ninja ZX-6R’s ultra-high-rpm 599cc four-cylinder engine cranks out a fat powerband with a linear torque curve and hard-hitting acceleration across the entire rev range. Its impressive healthy mid-range torque and over-rev capability are pure race bike, allowing riders to stay on the gas where lower-revving machines are forced back off and shift.

The Ninja ZX-6R’s engine was specially designed for minimal internal friction, so it is more responsive and allows the rider to easily modify cornering lines with minor throttle adjustments. Utilizing stronger, stiffer and more compact engine components than its predecessors resulted in a slim and compact engine and chassis. Its racing heritage also includes a close-ratio cassette transmission that makes it easy to keep the ZX-6R screaming at its horsepower peak and a slipper clutch for quick downshifts that don’t upset the rest of the chassis.

A compact, lightweight chassis design permits the Ninja ZX-6R to make a fast entry –enhanced by the slipper clutch and powerful radial-mounted front brake calipers –and maintain more cornering speed throughout the turn.

The frame and swingarm were developed with an ideal balance of rigidity, so the bike responds instantly and precisely to the rider’s every command. Mass centralization, engine mount locations and a variety of other factors were optimized to help its instant turn-in characteristics. Once in the turn, the Ninja ZX-6R holds a line with precision and tracks through the apex as if it were on rails. Completing this track-biased package are fully-adjustable front and rear suspension units.

All these features mean very accurate chassis feedback, with the ZX-6R communicating every move directly to the rider. The machine responds more precisely and predictably to control inputs and shifts in body weight. The result is a motorcycle that becomes one with the rider.

The entire package of frame, suspension, engine and bodywork enhances the ZX-6R’s fun-to-ride factor while supplying the high-performance power of a 600cc Supersport racer and the nimble handling of a small-displacement GP machine. The results are faster cornering speeds, quicker lap times and even more worried looks on the competition’s faces. Hi,

I am heading out now 3/29/08 to purchase one of these brand new machines:)
I am a girl and have been riding now for almost 12 years. I just sold my 2004 ZX6RR, that had a full race Muzzy exhaust & power commander, in July and had a hard time making it through the rest of the summer without a bike >;(
I talked a dealer into giving me the 2008 ZX6R + $500 discount, no set up charges & FREE TRAILERED DELIVERY TO MY DOOR!!! (which is a 2 our drive one way:) all this with tax & title.....$9100!!! I wish I would have known about this dealership last time I bought a bike. I will keep you posted once I get this machine out on the road sometime mid May. Until then... Keep The Shiny Side UP!!!

I just bought a 2007 ZX-6R this past february. This is my first bike. It was a used bike with about 2600 miles and I got it for 7K after taxes, tags and titlework. I started taking it out on the backroads around where I live in central KY late March and early this month. These roads are very twisty with some sweeping curves and beautiful scenery. The bike has been very responsive to my inputs, easy to control and a rather comfortable ride. I was initially hesitant about getting a sportbike as a novice rider, but I'm glad I came across this bike.

I had my first 2007 Kawasaki zx-6r. i t was my first bike ever. i was hesitant in the beginning, but i thought it is a good bike to start with.

After obtaining my license i bought it (i live in Dubai) for 32k dhms,around 8750 USD.

Delivered near my home, i took it for around 20 km.

was very amazing feeling.

going home after celebrating with friends.

One mistake.... had someone riding behind me, who also never rode a bike.

first hard brakes, lost control, thank god it was on low speed. he got concussion and i got broken clavicle.

Anyway, we are both ok now, and the bike is totaled.

I'm still gonna ride, going for 2008 ZX-6r, hope this time i don't crash it.

It is amazing bike, i looked into some used R6s but i prefer the Kawa.

I just bought one of these Saturday 05/03/08. I have only put about 70 miles on it and i am riding pretty conservative and trying to adhere to the recommended break in procedure. But I have already fallen in luv with how light and nimble this chassis is. This bike will turn in with ease and continue to until the rider instructs otherwise. Power is crisp and smooth. I have added on an Akrapovic exhast system. The sound and feel is amazing.

I recommend this bike to anyone that like myself has been a long time buyer of Honda and Suzuki. This is my first Kawi and Im glad i made the leap. Plus i get the bonus of riding a bike as my daily and get 40 miles to the gallon doing it.

I am the anonymous poster from 3/28/08.
I have since bought the 2008 ZX6R & I LOVE IT!!! It is everything you could want in a bike and more. I love the new style clutch, which is great when you have to get your shift on! I ride with 4 other dudes (1 rides an R1 and the others have newer Suzukis)& they have been beggin me to let them take it for a ride. I did have to put on a 1 inch lowering link & an adjustable kickstand (all together $200) but then a gain, I'm only 5'3". I may switch to an aftermarket exhaust, but I'll wait and see what the summer brings. I would highly recommend this ride to anyone lookin to have a great riding experience.
I did only pay $9109 & had it delivered to my door as promised, even better, they took my husbands Suzuki back for spring tune up at no charge :)
Lets hope for sunny days all summer long!!!!

I have owned and ridden all three the bikes that are compared here, all '08 models.

The r6 to me seems to lose its fun and is very common. Don't get me wrong its a great bike, but is the most expensive of the three.

The honda is the lightest of the three, and has the lowest center of gravity, but honda has looked after the rookie too much with this bike. there is a lack of fun at the top end of the speedometer, and with the bike having less weight its a bit hair raising as the wheel tries to constantly step out under full throttle.

Then there is my personal favourite, the kawasaki zx6r ninja. The moment i got on for the first time the bike enveloped me. we became one. It might sound strange but its true. the riding position is perfect, the bike's width is ideal, and the height is cleverly calculated to suit anyone. The response in corners is phenominal, cornering at over 200kmh with the greatest of ease. The bike makes you feel safe due to the slightly wider body, and the sound from that high revving motor is incredible. I still have the kawa and the yamaha, but the honda just lacked the long term appeal.

So personally for me the kawa was the best out of the three, but it depends on what you want. If its your first middleweight, then try the honda, as the lower weight will be a bit easier to throw around and get into the swing of things. For the rider who is more about appearance than performance, the yamaha will always be more popular. For the unrelenting track destroyer, the ninja is the one. Kawasaki has done everything right. there is even the optional extra of the carbon fiber back wheel like on the factory race bike, although it is a bit expensive. It is a pure racing machine, and takes a bit of nerve to get the full potential out, but it is worth it. it also happens to be the cheapest of the three...

I have the Black O8 with red rims. Just a few things for riders to be aware of. If you decide to buy chrome mirrors make sure you check the glass on them. Some of them are not All one piece like the stock Ones are . The mirror is actually glued to the plate that sits in side the mirror . Mine both fell off while riding and now i am waitng for a replacement. So i am going to put some clear silcone around the seam. The frame Sliders on these are Weird. I bought a pair for 07 08 and brought them to the dealer they said they were the wrong ones. So i have to return those and i ordered a new set. The K and N Is awesome i am going to put the full akrapovic exhaust and i cant wait. Other than that this bike is incredible and its better than a woman at least the Zx6r wont Let me Down!!!

i wanted to pick up my first bike and shopped around. i had learned a little bit on my friends 05 suzuki gsxr 600, but hadnt had much time on a bike. i found a dealer that was going out of buisness and picked up a brand new 08 zx6r with tax, title, registration, and a shoei helmet, out the door on plates for $8800! i didnt have a way to get it home though, 2.5 hr drive back to my place and i didnt have enough riding experience to trust myself riding my brand new $9k bike home that far so the dealer let me borrow his personal trailer and tie downs, and i towed it home with my explorer. brought the trailer and tie downs back the next morning. so with $40 in gas, the bike cost me $8840 to be in my garage brand spankin new.

been riding it a few days now, pretty much all day, im at 99 miles now exactly lol. but the bike is badass. im trying to adhere to the proper breakin procedures but the bike is hard to keep under 4k rpm! super easy to handel too. im lovin this bike!

this is my 2nd sport bike, 2nd kawasaki ninja zx6r..the first was a 2006 which was stolen right after the breakin period..ive been riding for 10 years now..typically old harleys and lately a newer sportster 1200...of course these are two different beasts while the 1200 can make you hang on for dear life, the 08 ninja is the most incredible ride experience one can have..ive smoked the new harley nighttrains thru every gear..i feel very safe on this lightweight bike..comments i hear in the local riding towns go like this..."it looks like its moving sitting still".."a work of art".."dangerous"..my favorite...as a trucker...i enjoy the smart safe ride...it doesnt get any better than this...good times are rollin'

quick question, does anyone know why the green one's bottom fairing is black and the other motorcycles have their bottom fairing (cowl) the same color as the bike? it just throws off the whole style of the bike, grrr, does anyone know where i can find dat bottom fairing to match the bike? or is it possible to paint it? email me at dasweetescandy@aol.com

I recently bought the zx6r 2008 Special Edition (ebony) and love this bike.

I totalled my zx2r '89 and replaced it with the zx6.
I ride with mates who have a gsx-600 (08) and a Triumph 675 (08).
The zx6r is more raw than both and is more exciting to ride.

The 675 has a lil more torque than my zx6r but now after fitting a Two Bros M5 slip-on exhaust it gives the daytona a huge run for its money.

Sweet ride indeed. Keep smoking them but ride safe. I you want to make it public, you can take some pictures of it and make a small review. Send them over and i'll post them in a new article.

I just bought the 2008 ZX6R ... From the 08 inventory got a great deal brand new $7600..$9000 out the door .. Its my first street bike... I cant get enough of it..See my flying around D.C on the vivid yellow
